How to choose the right movers for your move

Moving is one of life’s most stressful events.  Not only are you moving from one place to another, but your whole life is changing. Oh, and all of your property is going to be in the hands of a bunch of people you don’t know.  Choosing your moving company can make all of the difference.  The right moving company can make a smooth and stress-free move, while the wrong moving company can make it a living nightmare. These 6 steps will help you find the right crew for your move.

Ask them to see their moving licenses.  To do interstate moves, the mover must be licensed with the federal government and have a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) number.  For local moves, state moving associations should check a mover’s license and other requirements.

Choose local or national.  National moving companies are best for interstate moves, while local moves should be done by a local company.  Small companies could hire less-qualified workers, but large companies could not offer the crews, insurance, and services you need during the move.  The right company will assign permanent employs to move your property.

Be a detective. Look everywhere for anything you can find about the company, not just on their website. Ask friends, search Social Media for complaints, see how they are rated on Yelp, Angie’s List, and MovingScam.com.  Every company will receive complaints, but the number of complaints is the most important part to consider.

Get an actual estimate.  You should ask for estimates from more than one moving company and compare them. They must all include everything in your house that you want moved.  The estimates should be in writing so they cannot up the price for an unknown reason.

Be insured.  Your mover is liable for your belongings during the move.  Make sure you are offered an insurance plan or already have one so they will always be held accountable.

Ask a lot of questions.  You do not want to go into the move with any unanswered questions. As you are going through the process, you need to ask anything that you could possibly imagine. It is important for you to have a positive and trusting relationship with your movers.

The most important part about choosing the right movers is that they feel right to you.
