White House Reviews the Proposal for Commercial Drivers Drug Alcohol Database

A proposal is currently underway in the White House for creating a countrywide database of all the commercial drivers who failed at alcohol or drug tests or declined to undergo such a test. However, before the proposal goes further and becomes a regulation, White House has initiated a review on it.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration submitted a summary to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under the White House stating that the review is proposed for ensuring that any bus or truck driver that tests positive for alcohol or drug must not drive until having completed the necessitated steps.

The OMB released nothing more than the details of this summary. It has been advised to take 3 months for reviewing this proposal for adhering it to the law and administration plan. However, it could seek even more time if required. The proposal could be published by the FMCSA only after authorization from the OMB.
