Finding Your Perfect Salesperson (Part II of II)

Sales people are an essential part of the moving business.  The process of hiring one can be challenging.  In the first part of this two-part series, we gave you some key tips in identifying the best salespeople to hire to ensure the continued success of your personal moving business. The final part will provide you with some additional tips to take in to consideration when you are conducting your interviews with your potential sales employees.

  • Probe: Asking probing questions can be one of the most beneficial ways to dig into your potential salesperson, and really learn more about the nature of their character. Most employers ask generalized questions that employees have heard and often times rehearse their answers. But, asking a question that may catch them off guard is a seamless alternative into discovering their true self.
  • Ledger: A good way to weight out your potential employees strengths and weaknesses is to use a type of ledger. Using two categories labeled, “Strengths” and “Weaknesses”, you can then in turn be able to see on paper the characteristics that shined in the interview, and ones that actually hindered their opportunity in the position.
  • Test: Another generally overlooked idea that you may want to consider, is to make available personality tests to conduct during your interview. There are Impression Management Scales that are available to print online which can give you a very good, and honest view of your potential future employee.
  • Career: One of the biggest questions to take advantage of during your interview is that of the career goals of your perspective salesperson. Are they just looking for a job to pay the bills? Or are they truly interested in your company, and willing to grow within the organization throughout the years? This is a highly valued question that will show you if the person you are considering hiring can be an asset or hindrance to your company.

There are several additional ideas to take in to consideration, and they are freely and readily available to you via the internet, it just takes a quick internet search. When all else fails, when it comes to hiring someone, trust your gut instinct… very seldom will it lead you in the wrong direction.
