The Importance of Moving Insurance

The Importance of Moving Insurance

If you are a moving business, then it is important that you are fully insured.  You won’t obtain a license without adequate business insurance.  The next important thing is the customer’s insurance. It is not something that you ever want to have to use, but it is important that a customer protects their property in case the worst does happen.

Insurance is one of those items where you hope you never have to make a claim.  However, if you fail to have adequate insurance coverage, then replacing items might be more than you can comfortably afford.

As insurance is such an important part of moving, it is important that your sales teams are able to talk about insurance, or valuation coverage as it is usually called.  The valuation coverage the moving company can provide will cover some items but not all and they should advise that the customer buy insurance for valuable items.  They are not selling a policy or recommending a company but they must advise customers on insurance to cover items during the move in case something does happen.

There are different options and types of coverage. It is not necessary for a moving company to go into the details of a person’s insurance requirements.  However, they wouldn’t be doing their job if they forget to mention the importance of protecting their possessions during a relocation to a new home.

If a customer is planning to do the packing themselves, then it is important for them to check their insurance policy first.  It might reduce or invalidate their insurance and this is not something you would want for a potential client.

Therefore, while everyone hopes they will never need to claim a damage to their property while it is in transit to their new home, it is better to have protection. For this reason, it is important that potential clients are fully aware of securing adequate insurance for items on moving day.
