How to deal with Copy Cats

So someone has copied your moving company idea, whether it be your business plan, plan of action, incentive program, etc… As we know, it makes you angry. However, know that if someone is copying your idea that means that you are doing something right and you should be flattered. But how do you deal with copy cats? Try these three main strategies for fighting the idea thief or copycat.

  1. Trademark your brand. Mark your territory! – I think we can all learn a little something about dogs. When the animal feels that it owns something, or has the right to, it marks its territory. This should be no different when it comes to your moving business. Though it is smart to have and develop relationships with a trademark specialist or lawyer as your brand develops and your business grows. Be advised though; be careful not to spend too much time and resources protecting your idea. In the end, copycats and idea thieves will get away with it by dancing around your territory or run with your moving companies momentum.
  2. Be prolific – This strategy is much better and more effective. Since you came up with the moving business plan, you can make it better. You know best how to keep the momentum in your court, if you are able to do this, eventually you will win by having a greater, more established moving service. If you are more prolific, the more your stolen ideas will actually favor you.
  3. Advance your Moving Company – If you are able to advance your connections into deeper levels of depth, copy cats won’t be able to follow. If you combine depth of work, with your own unique voice, it is impossible for copy cats to imitate you.

There is only so much protecting that you can do for your moving business, strive to be better and more efficient than the competition and copy cats will not be a problem.
