The IAM is looking to bring together all the different organizations that jointly affect the moving business. Bringing together different organizations creates a stronger industry. One aim of the IAM is to coordinate all of their events and meetings to coincide with other moving conventions with the sole purpose to save time and money for moving businesses. Another goal is to create global standards for the industry.
The SDDC, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, put forward the changes that are happening with regard to household goods movement in the armed forces. At the Personal Property Forum, members of the AMSA were present and the changes highlighted. It is still important that the contracts are of the highest standard, but a merger means there will be changes.
National moving month in May was a huge success by going live on the internet. The aim of the campaign was to highlight the importance of finding the right moving company which complies with all the current regulations.
The 96th convention for the California Moving and Storage Association was a success. The convention looks to the future of the moving business, what new technology there is available, and benefits for the moving industry as a whole.
The FMCSA has made a positive step forward with the current database system that is currently in use. The flaw with the system lay in the area of up-to-date details, with some areas being completely out of date by the end of the year. This makes the tracking of information difficult if you need to follow a particular case. A new update will alleviate some of this problem.
Progress is positive for the new moving companies that wish to start a new business in Kentucky. Since 1950’s the state has required that any moving business must obtain a license, giving them the right to carry household goods throughout the county. What has caused problems is other companies that object and prevent new companies starting up. This has meant that since 2007, there have been no new licenses issued because of the challenges that have occurred and consequently no new business licenses issued.
