It is difficult to predict the amount of movement in the military that will occur each year. Typically in the summer, there is a high volume of movement, but this could be greater with the recent changes implemented in the Department of Defense.
The IAM annual conference that took place recently covered many important items affecting moving businesses. Along with appointing two new board members, IAM focused on solving problems and addressing issues that those in attendance wanted to hear about including legal requirements and industry updates.
The IAM’s annual meeting in Florida was a great success. This year the U.S Government representatives attended unlike the previous year when budget restrictions prevented any attendance and the only option was to have a Skype link set up. All representatives discussed areas that are associated with their individual departments and interacted with the other members in attendance throughout the annual meeting.
It is important to bring organizations together to discuss any potential problems and to iron out any difficulties. For military matters, sometimes it can seem like a long process, but often it is worth the wait for the result. It is not always possible to see the problems others are experiencing. By having conferences and meetings, it gives businesses the opportunity to voice their concerns for change and simpler processes to save money and costs all round.
The SDDC, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, put forward the changes that are happening with regard to household goods movement in the armed forces. At the Personal Property Forum, members of the AMSA were present and the changes highlighted. It is still important that the contracts are of the highest standard, but a merger means there will be changes.
It might seem an odd partnership but the military and many moving businesses rely on each other to perform tasks like moving military families and to stay in business. This partnership is developing into a stronger and deeper relationship since the military created the SDDC (surface deployment and distribution command). Their job is one of getting the best value for money and service from the companies used to transport military families and their homes to a new home and base.
