The NCMA was first established in 1969 as a way to improve the connection between the different organizations and to bring together the industries to ensure a smooth understanding of the requirements of the different aspects of the moving business across America.
The IAM is looking to bring together all the different organizations that jointly affect the moving business. Bringing together different organizations creates a stronger industry. One aim of the IAM is to coordinate all of their events and meetings to coincide with other moving conventions with the sole purpose to save time and money for moving businesses. Another goal is to create global standards for the industry.
The IAM and the AMSA are both looking to ensure that the J-1 Visa program that allows students from all over the world, the opportunity to work for a set period, normally in the busy summer months. The industry needs the influx of casual workers to take them through to the busier months.

At present it is possible to purchase this information in the form of a CD-ROM.
